As a runner, I know the struggle of staying hydrated during sweaty training sessions. Over the years, I’ve experimented with different electrolyte drinks and powders, and one thing is clear: salt is essential for keeping you hydrated and on the move. What’s not essential? Sugar, artificial flavors, or anything that upsets your stomach mid-run.

For a while, I thought LMNT was a great solution—it avoided the ingredients I wanted to skip. But after reading about controversies surrounding their nutrition claims, I decided to take matters into my own hands. The great news? LMNT shares their base recipe online, and with a little tweaking, I created my own version!

By using Redmond sea salt and plain dehydrated lemon for flavor, I found I didn’t even need a sweetener. Sweet! Now, I know exactly what’s in my electrolyte powder.

Without further ado, here’s the recipe, along with Amazon affiliate links to the products I used:

DIY Electrolyte Powder Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 5 tsp Redmond Pink Sea Salt – Essential for hydration and muscle function. Buy here.
  • 3/4 tsp Potassium Chloride – Helps prevent cramps and supports recovery. Buy here.
  • 1 tsp (4 capsules) Magnesium Malate – Aids in muscle relaxation and reduces fatigue. Buy here.
  • 2.5 tsp Dehydrated Lemon Powder – Adds natural flavor without the need for sweeteners. Buy here.

Directions:
1. Mix everything together.
2. Measure 3/4 tsp into resealable baggies. Buy here.
Note: If you decide to keep the mix in a single jar instead of measuring into little baggies, simply mix or shake the jar often as the ingredients are different consistencies and will settle improperly.
3. When you’re ready to hydrate, stir one 3/4 tsp baggie into 16-32 ounces of water.

Makes 10 servings
